3 intervention catch-up sessions aimed at Paper 2 Question 3.
Each session looks at a short extract and includes annotations, a model paragraph and a writing frame for students who require it.
Students then use the model to attempt their own paragraph in the same style on a different quotation.
A quotation revision game for Macbeth and A Christmas Carol. There are 98 key quotations on the board (49 from each text).
To advance, students roll the dice and must explain the quotation.
This is a follow up to my other game which reverses the process and prompts students to think of the quotations.
Currently in A4 but you may wish to enlarge it to A3.
A lesson aimed at teaching students how to write an informal article for Paper 2 Question 5 in a lively and compelling way.
It uses the popular TikTok debate about wheels and doors to engage students in the the topic.
Students read and annotate the two exemplar paragraphs for the techniques that are being used such as hyperbole, chatty phrases, withholding, parallelism, triplets, rhetorical questions.
They then go on to write their own response in the same lively style as the exemplar - using the list of chatty phrases as a handy crib sheet,
My students really enjoyed this lesson and produced some amazing work.
A highly detailed 31 slide lesson or series of lessons focused on challenging students to develop their own critical stance about Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire. Students start with an exam style question and are given asked a series of challenging questions to discuss and tasks to complete. They then go on to plan and write their own response and compare it to an A* example.
Use the revision cards to test yourself on 4 key quotations for each of the 6 main characters. There are also a list of key adjectives to describe each character.
This sheet contains information so students can annotate over 90 key quotations from the text.
It should be noted that this was created for a fairly low ability class to help students who had missed a significant number of lessons to catch up. The annotations are not perceptive enough for students aiming for grades 7-9. They will nevertheless still offer a solid grounding for higher ability students to then explore the quotations further.
The resource tells them the page number of each key quote so students must practise their scanning skills to find the quotation to highlight. Then students write the brief note beside each quotation to explain why it is important.
The page numbers correspond to the Heinemann edition. Check the preview to ensure the page numbers correspond to the copy of the text you are using in class.
